Yoga
Shala's 500
Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program (YTT)
gives yoga students who have completed 200 hours of training
the opportunity to significantly deepen their knowledge and
experience of yoga, and upgrade their certification to the
500-hour level.
Directed by Cain Carroll, Yoga Shala’s 500-hour program
upholds the highest standards of yoga instruction and practice.
The curriculum includes in-depth study of the following areas:
asana, pranayama, bandha, mudra, mantra, meditation, yogic/tantric
philosophy, yoga for women/men, rare yogic texts and writings
of notable sages, yogic lifestyle, anatomy/physiology, ayurveda,
therapeutic applications of yoga, basic Sanskrit...and so much
more.
Graduates receive certification and national recognition at
the 500 Hour level, and may apply for 500 Hour RYT (registered
yoga teacher) status with the Yoga Alliance.
Above all, the 500-hour program is a journey of self-discovery.
Students may start the program with any of the four unique
modules, and take up to two years to complete the program.
Each module represents a unique “spirit of yoga”,
whereby students experience the yoga tradition from different
angles and entryways.
Whether or not you want to teach yoga, the deepening of your
study and practice of the yogic arts and sciences will enrich
your life in unimaginable ways. Ultimately, the study of yoga
is the study of your own self and the realization of your highest
potential.
Cain has directed yoga teacher training programs at Southwest
Institute of Healing Arts (Tempe, AZ), and at Yoga Shala (Prescott,
AZ). He has mentored over 200 yoga instructors, using the traditional
methods of yoga to guide each student to develop a powerful
personal practice and unique teaching style.
"Cain is the best teacher of anything I have ever had.
Period."
- Jane DeLozier, Yoga Shala YTT Graduate
The Four Modules
Warrior - The Spirit of Courage, Discipline & Self-Mastery
In ancient times, warriors learned to master the challenges
of life, both on and off the battlefield. The spiritual warrior
finds mastery not through conflict or violence, but through
courage, discipline, gentleness and self-knowledge. The path
of the true yogi/yogini is to conquer the enemies of ignorance,
egoism, attachment, fear, laziness, greed and so on. In this
module we will explore the yoga tradition through the spirit
of the warrior. Emphasis: building intensity in asana, endurance
in meditation, confronting fear, and breaking self-limiting
patterns.
Scholar - The Spirit of Study, Contemplation & Insight
Studying the teachings and writings of illumined saints, mystics
and yogis is an integral practice on the traditional yogic
path. The yogic scholar cultivates mind not to become an “intellectual”,
but to develop clarity, discernment, mental focus, and insight.
In this module we will explore the yoga tradition through
the spirit of the scholar. Emphasis: scientific analysis
of yoga technology (asana, alignment, anatomy, pranayama,
meditation), study of Sanskrit, in-depth study of Patanjali
Sutras and the Ashtavakra Gita.
Mystic – The Spirit of Love, Devotion & Transformation
With a heart soaked in Divine Love, the tantric yogi/yogini
penetrates Life’s deepest mysteries, transforms body and
mind, and communes with All Life. In this module we will explore
the yoga tradition through the spirit of the mystic. Emphasis:
tantric techniques of devotional chanting, mantra, mudra, transformation
of sexual energy, and chakra yoga.
Healer – The Spirit of
Restoration & Wholeness
“Physician, heal thyself.” This is a common axiom
in many systems of traditional medicine throughout the world.
It also holds true in yoga. We must first learn to use our yoga
techniques to develop vital health and balance in our own lives
before we can truly help others. Yoga can be used as healing
modality for physical ailments, mental/emotional afflictions,
and ultimately to end the cause of suffering and realized Freedom.
In this module we will explore the yoga tradition through the
spirit of the healer. Emphasis: ayurveda, diet and nutrition,
yoga therapy, and self-healing through personal practice.
